Gambiaj.com – (BASSE, The Gambia) – A man from Demba Kunda, Upper River Region, was arraigned yesterday before the Basse Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder. The accused, Kemo Hydara, stands charged of causing the death of 14-year-old Yusuf Sumareh by beating him with a stick.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Peter A. Che, involves a single count of murder. Hydara did not enter a plea, nor did he have legal representation during the court proceedings.
Police Prosecutor CPL 5443 Barry alleged that the offense took place on August 31st in Demba Kunda, where Hydara unlawfully caused the death of the young boy. Given the severity of the charge, the prosecutor applied for the case to be transferred to the High Court.
Magistrate Che granted the application, ordering that Hydara be remanded at Janjanbureh Prisons. He further directed the registrar of the Basse Magistrates’ Court to transmit the case file to the Principal of the High Court for assignment by the Chief Justice.
