Charles, a taxi driver, finds himself in a precarious legal situation after defending himself against armed robbers who attempted to break into his vehicle. The incident, which occurred last year in February, has left Charles and a friend in a state of uncertainty as their court appearances have been repeatedly postponed, leading to their remand at the Mile 2 prison.

According to a neighbor who spoke to What’s On-Gambia, the armed robbers invaded Charles’s home around 3 a.m. Charles, who was alone at the time, saw the robbers attempting to break into his taxi. He bravely confronted them, leading to a struggle during which he was stabbed in the hand with a knife. Despite this, Charles managed to subdue one of the robbers with the help of his friend, Abdul, who had rushed to his aid upon hearing the commotion.

After apprehending the armed robber, Charles and Abdul took him to the police station, where he was detained. However, the situation took a tragic turn when they were informed that the robber was in critical condition in the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. Subsequently, Charles and Abdul were taken to court and remanded at Mile 2 prison, where they remain as their legal proceedings drag on with repeated postponements.

The case highlights the complex and often challenging legal circumstances faced by individuals who defend themselves against criminal activities. Charles’s situation underscores the need for a fair and timely judicial process to ensure that individuals are not unduly penalized for protecting themselves and their property.
